major 400x267 Canadian Alice Major Sparks Love For Science & Nature in PoetryAlice Major was born in Scotland, grew up in Canada, and was the first poet laureate for the City of Edmonton. Her interest in science and concern for the planet converge in her epic poem, “Welcome to the Anthropocene.” She has published 11 books of poetry and an award-winning collection of essays on poetry and science. She is also founder of the Edmonton Poetry Festival and a past president of the League of Canadian Poets.

Poetry & Planet is produced by Ethan Goffman. Marianne Moore’s “A Jellyfish” and the excerpt from Alexander Pope’s “An Essay on Man” are read by R. Michael Oliver. Musical excerpts from “Elements of Life” and “Earth Revisited” are written and performed by Reginald Cyntje, with vocals by Christie Dashiell. Aural interludes are by Douglas Harvey.
